East Lake Road Update
In April, Pinellas County Public Works began making improvements to the intersection of East Lake Road and Tarpon Woods Boulevard in East Lake. In the first phase, the concrete island on the southeast corner of the intersection was removed and the median on Tarpon Woods Boulevard pulled back. The crosswalk island on the southeast corner was also removed.
The next phase of work will consist of milling and resurfacing of the current pavement, followed by repainting to adjust the roadway markings to add a third northbound through lane to the existing two, with the right-most northbound lane becoming a merge lane on the north side of the intersection. The existing crosswalks will be restriped as they are, except for the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection, which is being removed. Pedestrians and cyclists can still use the north crosswalk to cross East Lake Road. This phase of work is scheduled to begin the week of July 6 and be complete by mid-July (weather permitting).
Construction is planned for evening/night to prevent interference with traffic as much as possible.
